KDW designed a new 11,000 sf second floor addition to accommodate additional switching equipment space, a new AC and DC power plant, a new centralized HVAC system with associated chillers situated in a second story screened chiller court. New offices, a break room, restrooms, stairs, and storage, complete with a new building entry and all related interior finishes were accommodated by demolishing and reconstructing the existing front entry and administrative spaces. All this was accomplished with no interruption to the operation of the telephone network. The exterior was designed using pre-cast concrete walls with a vertical pattern to match the existing structure. The entire facility is built of a combination of pre-cast and cast-in-place concrete.

In order to keep the building’s telecommunications equipment 100% operational during construction, KDW utilized temporary support systems during the replacement of HVAC and AC emergency power equipment, and constructed temporary walls and dust partitions. Site work includes new retaining walls, sidewalks, curbs, paving, piping, new generator, fuel tank, PSE transformer, irrigation, and landscaping.
