Built on a pier at the Carr Street Landing, this 94-unit
hotel was strategically positioned to take advantage of the
view along Tacoma’s waterfront. Key challenges facing its
design were the neighborhood's opposition to the development
of any structure on the waterfront, and the sensitive nature
of design and construction required amidst a waterfront
habitat.
KDW coordinated all land use and environmental issues
with the developer, and involvd the neighboring community
closely throughout all design phases. The resulting program
was sensitive to the neighborhood's wishes, provided the
least negative impact to the waterfront area, and created an
enhanced waterfront recreation area for guests and the
neighborhood alike -- all while providing lodging with
excellent accessibility to downtown. |
