After providing a needs analysis study of existing high school facilities, KDW designed a new one-story, 3,125 sf Media Center addition between and against two existing buildings.

Key to this project was the removal of a potentially hazardous, energy-consuming glass curtain-wall on one of the existing buildings. On the first floor, the curtain-wall was replaced with the new addition, while the second floor was mitigated by the installation of new thermal windows with safety glazing.

In the true spirit of sustainable design, KDW principal Tom Webb located recycled raised-access flooring for the school’s new computer training room from a telecommunications company, and obtained like-new recycled carpet for the library from the Seattle airport--thereby substantially reducing the school’s overall construction budget.

The scope of work also included new heating and cooling systems and new fire doors, all completed within the three month summer vacation period to avoid disruption to the school’s 400+ students.
