In order to meet Microsoft’s required delivery schedule, this critical data center facility was designed and constructed in just 10 months. The existing 31,000 sf shell structure was almost entirely re-built, along with major seismic upgrades, a new 17,000 sf mezzanine, 15,000 sf of raised computer server floor space, and 6,000 sf of administrative support space and security reception.

Other areas included a 400 sf patch panel room, a 2,000 sf system assembly room, and a 5,000 sf WAN room. Support spaces totaling approximately 20,000 sf were built-out utilizing a N+1 concept. Mechanical/electrical scope included a new 2700-ton chiller plant and associated infrastructure, dual 4000 amp utility services from separate sub-stations with associated house service, and emergency UPS with (4) 2000 kW emergency backup generator systems -- for a total build-out of 45,000 sf.

To maximize server floor area, the mechanical air-handling units, cooling towers and generator radiators were placed on the roof (10,000 sf), and screened from view via design elements. KDW continues to provide design coordination of upgrades and renovations for this critical 24/7/365 building.
