KDW recently completed the conversion of an existing Network Operation Center into a 4,200 sf high density server room on a raised-access floor. The Tier 2, N +1 Mission Critical Facility was designed to accommodate the installation of 120 high-density server racks, 16 high-density network racks, and 26 Chatsworth cooper/fiber distribution racks. Network cabling was relocated from under the floor to overhead, enabling easy access for connection and patching. Electrical infrastructure capacity was provided though a new 4000 amp distribution board to eight 225 kVa PDUs to provide 3.5 KW per rack (roughly 200 watts per foot), along with a new 2000 kVa emergency generator. The UPS module for this area was installed during another project. Mechanical distribution included modification to existing HVAC distribution systems for this area along with the installation of five new 30 ton CHWRAC Units, new rooftop 480 ton Chiller and Cooling Tower. Work included programming and design for war room 1045A, and revisions to communications design. The resulting project provides doubled server capacity within less than half the space of the existing data center.
