Prominently located along a major pedestrian pathway, Cafe 9 was designed to create an inviting gathering and dining space for Microsoft’s main campus.

Upon entering the building, glass walls grace the 4,000 sf lobby, a design feature that continues throughout the dining area along with clerestories and skylights to capture and distribute natural light. Multiple serving stations are organized to promote maximum efficiency and diner flow during peak meal times. Interior design includes quality finishes, bright colors, and durable furnishings to accommodate over 500 daily patrons. The building's overall design provides diners with a spectacular, open view of the surrounding landscape.

Before construction on this 19,000 sf two-story building addition could begin, an existing plaza had to be removed to dig out and finish a large basement area for food preparation. Once this space was complete, the plaza was replaced with an elevated concrete paver/membrane system to prevent water intrusion, and finished with a large fountain to establish a dramatic yet relaxing approach to the building as well as an appropriate landmark on campus.
