Existing office and administrative spaces were converted to create this new Network Operation Center, which monitors and supports the daily operations of computer laboratories within a 45,000 square foot Data Center.

Its design features twelve command center stations, tiered to overlook the main Control Center. The bi-level data console features two six foot rear projection screens surrounded by 24 monitors, stacked and ergonomically tipped for visual comfort within two levels of custom casework. The AV system is programmed to several configurations and can project input from any computer station. Video cameras monitor racks and locate personnel; communication systems connect the NOC to two conference centers, the largest of which provides video teleconferencing.

In addition to the command center, nineteen administrative cubicles are arranged in five work groups, with two private offices. A separate large conference room can be divided into two smaller rooms, with direct visual access to the console area.

Unique design features of this project include positioning HVAC cooling systems behind casework for enhanced acoustic control, and a special soffet with uniquely colored lighting to reduce visual strain and enhance monitor appearance.

Outside the NOC, passing employees are afforded select views of operational functions: a large flat screen is positioned against a window in the hallway, controlled by NOC staff to provide continuous readouts as required for specific projects and functions.
